Debbie King, Pays Plat First Nation

Debbie KingDebbie King is the environmental technician with Pays Plat First Nation. She decided to change careers after 25 years working in the carpentry field and graduated in 2012 from Confederation College’s Environmental Technician Program. Debbie also acts as the assistant water plant operator and holds a Class II Water Distribution and Class II Water Treatment licence.

Her duties with Pays Plat ensures that all environmental matters are dealt with. She performs a variety of jobs which include performing watershed studies, creating baseline databases, working with ArcGIS, and other various programs. Her main passion is source water protection.

Debbie works closely with Chief and Council to ensure companies that will be performing work in our Territory follow all environmental guidelines. Debbie is currently working on several projects including: a climate change and health study, wetlands enhancement and protection for Pays Plat Bay, a CEAA watershed study, and continuing work on Pays Plat’s source water protection plan.

Debbie resides on beautiful Nicol Island in Rossport, Ontario.
